When we launched One World Together, we introduced two memberships:
One to fund the running of our movement (Global Citizen membership) and one to fund community groups directly (The Solidarity Fund).
We did this to be radically transparent. To show exactly where your money was going.
And for a while, it worked.
But over time, we noticed something important.
People were excited to join us, but often confused about how. Many signed up for one fund but missed the other. And that meant fewer people supporting both parts of what makes OWT work.
In trying to be clear, we’d accidentally made things complicated.
And in doing so, we slowed our growth and our ability to drive real change.
This also meant we didn’t see the balance we wanted in the proportion of funding reaching both angles. To date, membership income has made up 29% of our total income from individual supporters, while 71% has gone to our Solidarity Funds. We want this to be higher.
So we’re evolving.
From today, we’re moving to one single membership. One simple way to support both the movement and the communities we serve.
Simpler giving. Stronger change.
Every pound is still fully transparent, supporting both the community groups doing the work and the team that make this movement possible.
Whether you choose to join monthly or annually, every donation will now be split two ways:
(That’s based on the equivalence of 2 monthly donations powering the movement, and 10 reaching our partners directly.)
Now your donation is one act of solidarity. One powerful step. One way in.
This change will help us scale, stay transparent, and grow a movement that’s even more inclusive, more joyful, and more effective.
Thanks for believing in this.
We’re still us. Just simpler. Stronger. And ready for more.
Together, we’re The New 1%
